How Unhealthy Are Our Rivers?

Dive into the latest State of Our Rivers Report from The Rivers Trust.

💙 Healthy rivers are vital. They are a powerful ally in combating climate change, they support a wealth of biodiversity, and they benefit our physical and mental well-being.

However, the data paints a concerning picture:

  • No single stretch of river in England or Northern Ireland being in good overall health.

  • Just 15% of English, 31% of Northern Irish, and 50% of Irish river stretches reaching good ecological health standard.

  • Toxic chemicals that remain in ecosystems for decades pollute every stretch of English rivers.

  • See the report for more stats.

It is safe to say that our rivers are far from thriving.

📊 The Rivers Trust’s updated State of Our Rivers Report combines data, insightful maps, and illuminating case studies, to really dive into just how our waterbodies are faring both nationally and locally. Uncover the most pressing issues, identify the most polluting industries, explore potential solutions, and understand the need for urgent action to restore our rivers.

We all need our rivers, but right now they need us!
