Our former Director, Brendan Joyce OBE

We are deeply saddened by the death of Brendan Joyce our former Director.

Brendan joined the Essex and Suffolk Rivers Trust in 2020 and made a significant contribution to the growth and standing of the Trust that he was justly proud of. He was widely respected across East Anglia and beyond for his leadership in the nature conservation world and dedication to achieving more for wildlife. He frequently built on his 23-year experience as CEO for Norfolk Wildlife Trust starting similar work in Suffolk and Essex.

Always full of energy and ideas to improve and enhance the natural aquatic environment he inspired others around him. Brendan wrote our first three-year strategy which set a new direction and a level of ambition for the Trust that we will continue to build on. He was a leader who cared deeply for people around him and despite his illness remained involved to ensure the future of the charity and its staff.

We were lucky to have such a remarkable man as our leader for those few years. Our thoughts are with his family and friends and the many people who knew and worked with him.
